Getting started

How to plan your first controlled stress test

A practical walkthrough to help you choose a target, set limits, and observe your own system.

Start with a question

Decide what you want to learn. A useful test has a clear target, a defined duration, and a way to observe the result.

Agree on the scope

Verify ownership and authorization. Coordinate with the people who operate the system, and account for shared dependencies.

Observe and stop deliberately

Use existing monitoring to compare behavior before, during, and after the test. Stop when your agreed limits are reached. Record what changed before increasing the load.
